Script

This is part of the Jordon River Puppet series. It was originally written to lead into the story of the Healing at Bethesda of John 5:1-15 but works with any miracle story.

After the music, Slick Eddy appears at the bus station window.

Eddy: Well now, this is a nice little town. A guy could probably do pretty good in a town like this. (to Jason) You there, what is the name of this place?

Jason: This is Jordon River, it's the biggest town in Canaan County.

Eddy: This is the biggest town in the county? That must be some county. Tell me, how many people life here anyway? About 7?

Jason: Maybe a little more than that. I'm Jason, and who are you?

Eddy: Slick Eddy's the name – buying and selling is my game and I bet I can make you a great deal today… what do you need?

Jason: I don't think I need anything.

Eddy: Sure you do, everything needs something. How about a watch? I've got a good selection of brand new watches.

Jason: No, I don't need a watch.

Eddy: How about a genuine plastic took pick holder? I bet you don't have one of those…

Jason: No thanks

Eddy: Can I interest you in a set of slightly used false teeth? They're in real good condition – one owner.

Jason: Used false teeth? Who would buy a set of used false teeth?

Eddy: You'd be surprised.

Jason: No, I'm just fine. I don't need a watch or a plastic tooth pick holder or a set of false teeth. Now if you will excuse me I need to get back to the Super Church lesson.

Eddy: Super Church, well now, why didn't you say so – I've got lots of good stuff you probably need for Super Church.

Jason: Like what?

Eddy: Well now, let's see… I can get you a rubber Jesus that floats in water… get it? It floats, just like he's walking on the water. Or I can hook you up with an empty tomb night light – those are really popular.

Jason: No, I don't think so… I think we'll just get going with or lesson today.

Eddy: Well now, what's the lesson about?

Jason: It's about a miracle that Jesus did at the pool of Bethesda.

Eddy: A miracle?! Boy, I'd love to get my hands on one of those. How much are they?

Jason: How much are what?

Eddy: A miracle, how much do I have to spend to buy a miracle?

Jason: You can't buy a miracle, it doesn't work like that… they are not for sale.

Eddy: You're just hard-balling me, everything is for sale. How much?

Jason: They're not for sale. A miracle is God at work in a special and unusual way, and you can't buy that.

Eddy: Why not?

Jason: Because you can't bribe God – He is much bigger than that.

Eddy: Well now, I'm not giving up that easily. You forget who you're talking to… Slick Eddy's the name – Buying and selling is my game. We're going to make a deal, you just wait and see. I'll be back… so you make sure you hold onto one of those miracles for me.

(Eddy Exits, begin lesson)
