Satan is limited, defeated and God is not. We don't have to be afraid.

How to Get There

  • This letter is addressed to the people of Smyrna. This city had a lot of temples, emperor worship, and more.
  • Persecution of the Church was common. This is where one of the first marytrs, Polycarp, was killed.
  • The people were afraid, and they let pagan ideas and rituals into the church.
  • The message here in response is that suffering will come in this life. It isn't something they can run from, but it isn't something we need to fear.
  • The title used of God here is "the first and the last." The persecution is always limited, but god is not.
  • God is unlimited, God's presence is uninterupted in our lives. No matter what comes our way, God is with there, alive and with us.
  • And our enemy is limted, defeated even. Satan is defeated, conquered, but still struggling.
  • Don't let Satan convince you that God is limited and he is not. Christ is always there.
  • Suffering will always be limited, and our most important possession, our salvation, is protected. Satan cannot take that away from us.
  • So do not fear what is limted, but have faith in the God that is always with us, at the beginning and the end of our everything.

Things to Watch For

  • The topic of fear is one that goes well with sotries, war stories especially.
  • This message also deals with God's names and God's strength that those names imply. A great video to help illustrate this is "My King" {{#ev:youtube|upGCMl_b0n4}}
