Always on our Mind
Text: Philippians 2:4-5
Occasion: General
Audience: Adults
Theological Tradition: General
Topic: People
Author: Seud O'Nimmy

Direction

Our minds should be on people and their needs, especially their eternal needs.

How to Get There

  • Other verses that could easily be used are Mark 12:30, Matthew 16:23, or Romans 12:2.
  • What is always on our mind? A lot can be known about us by where our thoughts go.
  • But what is on God's mind is people, loving them and saving them (John 3:16-17).
    • No one could trap Jesus in theological arguments. Jesus just kept coming back to loving people.
  • Even on the cross, Luke 23:34, Christ had people on his mind.
  • Nothing goes to heaven except people.
  • We cannot get so absorbed in our own things that we lose our emphasis and focus on people.
  • Heaven and hell literally hangs in the balance for real people.
  • This is a hostile world, with a lot that can distract us, but finding God is worth it. Our mind on God and the things God has on his mind, people.
  • Our mind should be on this task, knowing/loving God and striving to impact every person God impressed on our minds.

Things to Watch For

This is a great message to reinforce a purpose/mission/vision statement of your church if you have a relevant one.

In the original presentation of this message idea, the song "Alwasy on my Mind" by Willie Nelson was also used.
